Stoliarov & Slomatin Russian clowns - Cirque de Demain 1984

bad1dobby

The juggling is just a simple 3 club cascade, but the performance package is what counts here - a charming picture of a boy with his toy juggling automaton. From Cirque de Demain 1984. Silver medal (for this and other reprises)

bowl kicking - Gao Jin at Cirque de Demain 1983

bad1dobby

Gao Jin on giraffe unicycle kicking bowls to the head at 6th Cirque de Demain in 1983. He won a gold medal. Two points of difference from the standard bowl kicking act - using a mug with the bowls for the 4 kick, and the quirky teapot finale

plate spinning - Cirque de Demain 1980

bad1dobby

Short clip of plate spinning on table from 4th Cirque de Demain 1980. The spinner is from the Cairo Circus School. It's only a short clip, but has some nice close-ups of the spinning technique. This type of plate spinning used to be called "waltzing plates".

trident manipulation - Cirque de Demain 1980

bad1dobby

This form of staff juggling now seems to be commonly called "fei-cha". It comes from the traditional Chinese acrobatic repertoire, and in chinese acrobatics books and videos that I have seen it is translated as "trident manipulation". The trident has loose elements at the head, which make the jangling sound - it's often a very noisy act. This spinner is Mohamed Badr El Nouby from the Cairo Circus School.

Victor Ponce - Big Top Variety Show ca. 1980

bad1dobby

(Re-upload: a clearer version of JTV #148) Victor Ponce is an Argentinian circus juggler, known for boomerang hats and very fast club juggling. I like this clip because it starts with the rarely seen ball & sticks (Japanese origin). ball & sticks, head bounce with skipping, 3 tambourines, 3 & 5 clubs, 3 & 4 boomerang hats
