MinuEd (with notation)

Ed_Clark

MinuEd is a pass-pass-self base pattern, with some one beat manipulations, which makes it more difficult than standard notation patterns where every manipulation is given two beats. It is juggled in the Rhonda manipulation style http://juggling.tv/15646. First round of the pattern ever recorded (http://juggling.tv/15002) was in the iconic Rhonda styling, so it has set the default style for MinuEd Notation is in the video!

Tricks With Hats: Onehanded, Continuous Tumbles

TricksWithHats

Onehanded, Continuous Tumbles - The hat keeps tumbling, in your hand, continuously, infinitely, forever, or at least until you stop. This trick is an extension of the Tumble - so go learn that one now. You'll notice that after you have performed a tumble, you are holding the hat the wrong way round to perform a second tumble immediately after it. This is where the extension comes in. During the first tumble (which is a standard tumble), the hat rotates 1.5 times. The second tumble is similar, but the hat is thrown without a change in grip, it still does 1.5 spins, which means that it is now facing the same way as when you started! Inorder to give yourself space for the second tumble, it feels like you need to throw it a tiny bit higher or faster. Try to make it all flow together into a continuous movement, the hat shouldn't ever pause, the hand acts more as a guide to keep it rotating in the right direction. A nice variation on this is to tumble the hat infront of you, switching hands between tumbles.

Tricks With Hats: Arm Roll

TricksWithHats

Arm Roll - Rolling a hat along your arm. Hold the hat in an inside grip, and from behind the head (duck a bit), release with a flick of the wrist. The brim stays in front of the arm, whilst the crown rolls along it. The easy catch is palm-upwards. The hard, snazzy catch, which extends the roll a little bit, is palm downwards; let the brim roll over the thumb, and pinch-catch the brim between thumb & forefinger. Smile. Tricks With Hats: Can Opener

TricksWithHats

Can Opener - Literally flipping your lid! Reach over your shoulder and head, and hold the hat in an inverted pinch grip Flick the wrist upwards and release the hat, which will execute a perfect single spin (honest). Coat-peg catch above your head. Minus five style points if you have to look... Plus 10 points if you can catch the hat on your head blind, and without the coat-peg grip. trident manipulation - Chinese male duo

bad1dobby

2 male Chinese acrobats performing with tridents. I do not know which troupe they are from. This skill is sometimes called Fei-cha. It is a traditional Chinese acrobatic form. The tridents have loose elements at the head, which creates the characteristic jangling noise. From a video titled Chinese Acrobatic Feats.

trident manipulation - Cirque de Demain 1980

bad1dobby

This form of staff juggling now seems to be commonly called "fei-cha". It comes from the traditional Chinese acrobatic repertoire, and in chinese acrobatics books and videos that I have seen it is translated as "trident manipulation". The trident has loose elements at the head, which make the jangling sound - it's often a very noisy act. This spinner is Mohamed Badr El Nouby from the Cairo Circus School.

Manuel Alvarez - Pista de Estrellas ca.1990

bad1dobby

Manuel Alvarez. Spanish circus juggler. The king of kickups! 5 & 7 rings, 3 & 4 clubs (lots of kickups), 2-4 boomerangs, 3-7 boomerang plates ... and one very vocal ringmaster! I believe this is from Spanish TV series Pista de Estrellas, which makes it around 1990.

bad1dobby

This is the one eat-the-apple routine that actually makes me laugh (with the possible exception of Michael Davis). It's Derek Scott (Canadian) on the Australian children's TV show "Agro's Cartoon Connection" (Agro is the puppet). From the early 1990s.

Ra Ra Zoo - Live at the Swan Theater

LP

Documentary/Showreel about British "new circus" troupe Ra Ra Zoo and their show "Live at the Swan Theater". Not sure about the date as I can't make that out at the end, but it's some time in the late 1980s-early 1990s I think. Video features what looks like a young Sean Gandini to me, which would make it pre-1992

unicycle bowl kicking on globe - MCCF 1987

bad1dobby

The extraordinarily talented Fu Xiuyu from the Changchun Acrobatic Troupe, at the 12th Monte Carlo Circus Festival (1987), kicking multiple bowls up to her head while on a giraffe unicycle ... on a rolling globe! Astonishingly the act did not win either a gold or silver clown, but the Changchun troupe, which presented this act and a highwire act, won "Monaco City Prize" and "Monte Carlo TV Station Prize".
