New ideas, new props, new life. Had the idea for a long time to mix contact with other props (in particular the RDL props), so I gave myself a challenge of trying to come up with some mini routines over the summer. Still in the early stages but its somewhere I want to look into more. Going to live in Japan permanantly from the 30th so its a kind of goodbye UK/home vid. TURN HD ON! Salaryman - A full length video combining contact bodyrolling, finger stalls and mixed props (Renegade Design Lab). I've made plenty of videos up until now but I felt like creating something more substantial for a change. The idea came several months ago during a very low point at my job (basically a lack of anything to do), so I've used all that pent up energy and frustration and decided to create some new ideas and see if I could take contact juggling somewhere that maybe hasn't been explored before. Theres plenty more to be done but this is a first step towards where I would like to be with my juggling in the future. I'm not interested in asking people to pay to watch or for donations (it just wouldn't feel right), I simply ask that if you like what you see, please share it! The hatstand made its debut at chocfest 7, where I was compering. After a period of prototyping and refining, I built the version that worked. I demoed this a couple of times then it broke. I replaced the elastic and set it up for the big day, used it on stage and it worked, then broke next time I used it. Be prepared to spend significant tinkering time in between uses, and for frequent breakdowns. That said, it's never let me down when I've needed it. All in all I've found it a great way to get chicks[1], if you don't count the long evenings spent honing the design and strewing the house with geeky construction equipment, and the fact you'll be laughed out of most nightclubs if you go in wearing a topper. But on stage it works, and it has drawn admiring glances from fellow jugglers and even won us a bag full of croissants on one occasion.
