[2006] This is a video of tricks using the Japanese props of a ball and two "ball sticks." I made the "ball sticks" a week ago and here's what I've learned. About half of these moves are ones that I've never seen done before.

Here's a non-trailer trailer for an upcoming mini-series of Boppo's Whiteboard ... namely, several different methods to calculate or deduce transition sequences between excited-state siteswap tricks. If you know the get-in and get-outs, that's enough to make transitions. If you know of or can find a trick that has states in common with the tricks you wish to transition between, that is enough to make transition sequences. If you know the states themselves and can find throws to convert between them, that too is enough. Also, if you can give the total arrival schedule, if you will, of the entire sequence you wish to have transitions within, that too enables you to deduce possible transition sequences. They all work for synch, too, but the last is maybe the best method for me.

This is the opening sequence from my performance at the 2005 London Juggling Convention. Unfortunately it all went a little downhill after here...

I've put together a video of a bunch of different club passing patterns. All jugglers are graduates of Messiah College (I still go there). Credit goes to John Chase for teaching the rest of us these patterns and being, by far, the best juggler in the group. The six-ball siteswap 999441. Note that there are 3, 2, and 1 throws of each different height, which have heights of 3^2, 2^2, and 1^1. The sum of the throws are then 3^3 + 2^3 + 1^1, which is the square of the third triangular number (1+2+3)^2. How about that? This works in general, by the way.

Panto, juggled by Graham, Joanne, Danny and Ed. Part of the Aidan Burns Project to juggle all 27 of his variations to the Scrambled V. Notation: __1__2__3 A: ps ps ps ->B B: ps ss ps ->C C: ss ps ss -> A M: sC iA cB -> M The feeder is "A", the juggler to the feeder's left is "B" and the juggler to the feeder's right is "C". The feeder counts "1 2 3" to make it easier to keep track of where we are in the pattern. On beats 1 and 3, A (the feeder) and B exchange a pass. On beat 2, A and C exchange a pass. On 3, juggler B catches the carried pass and walks on four count (rotating the positions anti-clockwise). 1. "sC": The manipulator substitutes a self from C to C. This takes place while the juggler is walking on four count. 2. "iA": The manipulator (M) intercepts a the pass from C to A. The juggler who was A is the new manipulator, and reads from the manipulator line. The old manipulator, reads A's line. 3. "cB": The manipulator carries a club to B. We found it useful for the manipulator (who was the feeder for 1 and 2) to say 3 during the carry, for continuity. All the jugglers are re-labeled and the new feeder starts counting the 3 passes. Panto gets it's name from the pass from A to B on beat 1, the club is quite close to the back of the manipulators head (He's behind you!).

I took the SittCom Circus Crew, who've been learning and developing circus skills over the past few years, to the Milton Keynes Juggling Convention in November 2010. While we were there, I bumped into an old friend from Wales, Pete Gamble. He agreed to let me film him teaching my young people the art of whipcracking. Enjoy!
