1/2 Matrix Horizontal Pivot

Sandy

Does exactly what it says on the tin. If you cock up a matrix this is a good way of recovering without looking like you cocked it.

Devil Sticks - Zak. Aged 10

Croppie

Zak has been teaching himself the Devil Sticks and is getting pretty good even though he's still at junior school. He's learned all these tricks by the ripe old age of 10 after owning a set for 3 years, practising occasionally! He doesn't think he's good enough to put on juggling .tv yet, so your feedback would be appreciated.

Continuous Steve

Sandy

Do a Steve and as the staff is coming up your arm cross your arms so the arm with the staff on it is behind. Transfer the staff onto your other arm. Meg does an interesting variant passing from her forearms Continuous Steve detail: Forearm Transfer

Merror - flow arts practise

ZuZ

When I train with mirrors, sometimes I check myself for how does it look like, searching for mistakes (errors) etc... So I decided to use this idea of looking into mirror as an improvisation exercise and I played more with the idea of consciously comunicating with "my other self" in the mirror as it was a living being. What are you searching for when you look in the mirror?

Prayer Steve

Sandy

This move can be done with or without the extra spin on the back, i like to vary it. Keep your hands together in a prayer position all the time you are doing this move or it doesn't count. If you can't get this move try continuous steves first, they will get you used to the motion.

I have recently purchased these cotton gloves, it does make it had to manlipulate things due to lack of friction, but fun none the less. This little vid was to see what things look like for audience's point of view.

Backyard Boxes

erygordyh

My dad thinks that my juggling has ruined the grass, but he and I both know that it died because he doesn't water it. Note: This version includes an exclusive bonus trick that I felt was worthy only for the hallowed halls of JugglingTV, NOT just because I forgot to put it in the original version. Music: Beat 1, Flynn (both by Ratatat)

Antispun Fishtail Fountain

Sandy

This came about through me and Tim messing about with antispin contact ideas and trying to work out how to antispin a fishtail. We came up with the antispin fishtail fountain and realised it could be done without antispin (obviously). Surprisingly the antispin version is easier as it doesn't try to fly off your hand as much. Starting in reverse do 1 beat behind you then go straight into a 180 fishtail carry downwards and in a straight line. Because it's antispin you need to move pretty fast in straight lines. When you get to the other side move your hand straight up and then straight across. This needs to be done in 1 beat. Try going through this holding the staff to your hand before fishtailing it to get used to feeling the path of spin.

Juggling Tutorial - 3 Ball Half-Shower Trick

NielsDuinker

http://www.nielsduinker.com - This is a chapter of Niels Duinker's "Performance Highlights and Learn to Juggle DVD"./nLearn this cool juggling trick. Niels Duinker teaches you the half shower. The half shower is a variation on the cascade (the basic juggling pattern). In the half shower one hand does over the top throws while the other hand throws normally. It is a beginners tricks and a fun one to learn.

The Steve

Sandy

Originally invented by Mushy Pea Steve this move was refered to as "that move Steve does" and became known simply as The Steve. Hold your arm out in front of you with the staff a little above your head. Spin the staff towards you so it will roll down your arm and release it just before the staff is pointing straight in front of you. As the staff rolls down your arm straighten your arm a little to allow a smoother roll and raise your arm up. When it gets to your shoulder raise that shoulder and drop the other so it keeps rolling. As it comes onto your second arm raise that arm with the staff to give it the momentum to get back to your hand.

Matrix

Sandy

The matrix. It's hard. That's why everyone loves it. You can do the matirx in 2 ways, starting on the neck like I do or starting on the shoulder like meg does here. To distinguish the difference I call this version a full matrix because it goes fully around your body and not just under both arms. I personally prefer the full matrix (well I would wouldn't I) because I think it looks nicer but it's all a matter of oppinion. The secret to getting a matrix is to really lean. It takes a while to get and takes even longer (a lot longer) to get it solid. As with everything practice, practice, practice.

Behind the Back Fishtails

Sandy

Pretty self explanitory. That doesn't mean they're easy though. You can cheat a bit by pushing the staff around with your body.

Wankel engine: Aidan Burns' Scrambled V Variation (iC cA sC)

westwolf

The feeder is "A", the juggler to the feeder's left is "B" and the juggler to the feeder's right is "C". The feeder counts "1 2 3" to make it easier to keep track of where we are in the pattern. On beats 1 and 3, A (the feeder) and B exchange a pass. On beat 2, A and C exchange a pass. On 3, juggler B catches the pass and walks on four count (rotating the positions anti-clockwise). 1. "iC": The manipulator (M) intercepts the pass from A to C. The juggler who was C is the new manipulator, and reads from the manipulator line. 2. "cA": The manipulator substitutes a _pass_ from A to B. 3. "sC": The manipulator substitutes a _self_ from C (to C). The passes _from_ the feeder are not manipulated, the feeder does only normal pass throws to B, C, B

Full Stevetrix

Sandy

I can't do this move yet so here's a description from Tim: Bacisally this move is just a way of combining a full steve & a matrix into one move. As the staff rolls down the left arm you need it to roll so the centre is a couple of inches infront of the arm (too much and the staff will speed up, too little and the staff won't make it round). The staff then goes round the left shoulder, round the neck and rolls up the right arm. As the staff gets to the top you propeller round the right wrist then let it roll back down the right arm. This is where it gets hard (espcially if you want it to feel smooth). As the staff rolls down the right arm you need to roll it so the centre moves behind the arm then roll it round the right shoulder round the throat and back up the left arm. It's tempeting to bring the staff round the right arm before it gets to the shouder but it don't look as good and it doesn't have the same flow to it). In short the move goes 1/4 steve - 1/2 matrix - 1/2 steve -1/2 matrix - 1/4 steve enjoy

BoB Convention Show - Adam

LP

BoB (Bristols Other Bristol) Juggling convention in the UK, 1999 (BoB1) was held in the University of Bristol Students Union, and the show was in The Winston Theater. I've made no attempt to contact the performers in this 16 year old video, so if you're in this video and would prefer I took it down - please say so and I will remove it! NB - This video is a bit dark, because UV staff doesn't really show up very well on 1990s video camera equipment. It's included in this collection for completeness

Inside Fishtails

Sandy

This move evolved from the inside bit of 5 beat fishtails. Basically you are fishtailing on the inside bit of your thumb between your thumb and arm. This is fairly tricky to keep going so what I do (as you will see in the video) is add extra beats to keep the momentum going, this does technically declassify the move as a fishtail but I think it's quite a fun move and it feels nice to do.
