We find it much easier to start the pattern on count 2 and miss the cC in the first round.

A quick demonstration of the 4 Ball trick '53' made for Rob of the Wildcat Jugglers. Re-uploaded because of file permission errors that I couldn't otherwise fix... very odd!

Hold the hat by the brim with your left hand so that the crown of the hat is facing away from you. Take the stick in your right hand.
With a flick of your wrist, throw the hat up slightly so that it starts spinning anti-clockwise. As the hat descends, hit the brim with the stick slightly to the right of center, such that the stick curves slightly upwards and outwards. This will cause the hat to spin as it rises into the air. As it descends again, repeat the hitting action.
The idea of the basic spin is to keep the hat in the air by hitting it repeatedly with the stick in this manner. I find it helps if you look at the top portion of the inside of the hat.
Adjusting the spin rate and direction:
Hitting the hat nearer the center will give you a slower spin and more height, nearer the edge will give you a faster spin but less height. Obviously striking the left side of the brim will reverse the spin and cause the hat to go clockwise.

Been practising this trick for 2-3 months now with 4 rings and it's starting to be very solid. Just recently I added the 5th ring and it's starting to run as well! :)/nPlan is to perform it with 5 rings with a run of 10 bounces/20 catches within a year from now! From forward with the right hand when the staff comes in front of you start the movement off as if you were going to do a 180 fishtail, but instead of taking the staff behind you (on the other side) you do a quick 360 and tuck your hand behind your head then go back into forward fishtails (it feels a bit like you untwisting your body underneth the staff). p.s. you don't really need to hold your chest wheil doing this move
