10 Years of Not Juggling - Full Resolution

btiemann

I took a 10-year break from juggling, but am getting back into it. Here is my first collage. Music is Comets Over Flatland (15) by R. Winchester. It is written in 15-tone equal temperament, not the otherwise universal 12-tone equal temperament of western music. Filmed in late 2009. 0:04: 4: 61616 0:19: 5: ([4,4x],2)* 0:29: 7: ([6,6x],2)* 0:37: 4: 7161616 0:51: 5: 75751, 77771707771716661*, then 95551 a few times. * Trick was "spontaneous." 1:21: 5: 66661 1:31: 8: (8,8), 97, 8, (8x,8x) flashes 1:56: 5: 91 2:07: 6: 99919191 2:14: 8: 999999990 and 99999991 flashes 2:23: 9: 9 (9 catches then 11 catches) 2:40: 10: a (11 catches, Garfield Finish) 2:48: 5: 88171717 3:00: 6: 8844 3:07: 6: 868671 3:15: 6: b66661 3:23: 4: 80 (Actually, 6: 8[22]) 3:36: 6: 889191 (big brother of 6671) 3:42: 6: 78888171 3:51: 6: 8888181 4:00: 7: 88888817 4:05: 8: 97 4:11: 7: 8888881 4:20: 8: (8,8) (18 catches) 4:27: 7: 888891 - this is a really neat trick 4:32: 8: 8 (21 catches) 4:40: 10: a (17 throws, 10 drops)

Full Stevetrix

Sandy

I can't do this move yet so here's a description from Tim: Bacisally this move is just a way of combining a full steve & a matrix into one move. As the staff rolls down the left arm you need it to roll so the centre is a couple of inches infront of the arm (too much and the staff will speed up, too little and the staff won't make it round). The staff then goes round the left shoulder, round the neck and rolls up the right arm. As the staff gets to the top you propeller round the right wrist then let it roll back down the right arm. This is where it gets hard (espcially if you want it to feel smooth). As the staff rolls down the right arm you need to roll it so the centre moves behind the arm then roll it round the right shoulder round the throat and back up the left arm. It's tempeting to bring the staff round the right arm before it gets to the shouder but it don't look as good and it doesn't have the same flow to it). In short the move goes 1/4 steve - 1/2 matrix - 1/2 steve -1/2 matrix - 1/4 steve enjoy

Siteswap Pinch-Ups - Boppo's Whiteboard

btiemann

Here's something I discovered while composing my thoughts for an upcoming siteswap-based tutorial for numbers juggling (still in progress) I call them "siteswap pinch-ups." I don't think they have been described before.

Steve Neck Wrap

Sandy

Do a steve with an extra spin on the neck and use that extra spin to get round your throat (giving the staff a little pinch with your shoulder and chin gives it more momentum). Lean to the right to allow the staff to pivot back round to the back of your neck and finish the steve.

Tricks With Hats: Arm Roll

TricksWithHats

Arm Roll - Rolling a hat along your arm. Hold the hat in an inside grip, and from behind the head (duck a bit), release with a flick of the wrist. The brim stays in front of the arm, whilst the crown rolls along it. The easy catch is palm-upwards. The hard, snazzy catch, which extends the roll a little bit, is palm downwards; let the brim roll over the thumb, and pinch-catch the brim between thumb & forefinger. Smile. Tricks With Hats: Backseat

TricksWithHats

Backseat - A pair of throws and catches that Mike discovered while sitting in the back of a car. Grab the side of a hat in a pinch grip, and carry it down in front of you so the crown is downwards. Flick it up so it spins 360 degrees, and catch it in another pinch grip at the back of the hat. Quickly push it up and forward, spinning the hat 180 degrees and catch in a pinch grip once again. Stick it back on your head. To perform the trick most effectively aim for one slick movement rather than two separate parts. From the TricksWithHats archive

Tricks With Hats: Can Opener

TricksWithHats

Can Opener - Literally flipping your lid! Reach over your shoulder and head, and hold the hat in an inverted pinch grip Flick the wrist upwards and release the hat, which will execute a perfect single spin (honest). Coat-peg catch above your head. Minus five style points if you have to look... Plus 10 points if you can catch the hat on your head blind, and without the coat-peg grip. Tricks With Hats: Crown Pinches

TricksWithHats

Take a pinch grip at the front of the hat's crown and flick it up and forwards. Turn the hand round so the palm is facing forwards to catch the hat in another pinch grip at the back. After you've got a feel for this try doing it without looking at the hat. Either place it straight back on the head or reverse the process to return it. If you use a bowler hat make sure you take a really firm pinch to crease the top of the hat when removing it, otherwise you'll be left trying to catch the smooth round surface of the back of the hat. Once you've mastered this one it's a trivial task to start by pinching the back of the hat and flicking it to a catch on the front.
