Dolby 7.1 Tutorial

Ed_Clark

Dolby 7.1 is the latest in the series of patterns that have manipulation similar to the classic Dolby Söround http://juggling.tv/1742 In this new pattern, we add a club to the Dolby 5.1 pattern, first shown http://juggling.tv/16656 Dolby 5.1, Dolby 5.2 and Dolby 7.1 were all composed together as a set. Seeing as Dolby 7.1 is another step up in the difficulty of manipulator patterns I've not gone with a standard pattern video, but instead added some training patterns - like a workshop. Workshop tips: 1. Keep the tempo slow when you are throwing the heffs - you are controlling the pattern speed. 2. The manipulation needs to be a little faster than you might do it in Dolby 5.1, as the tempo is set by the dwell+height of the heffs. Slow manipulation can introduce timing problems for catching the 4p4p. 3. Heffs (4) and double passes (4p) must be the same height in order to keep good timing. 4. The pattern is synchronous.

Zippy

Ed_Clark

A pass pass self feeding 3 count scrambled style pattern. Lots of fun, moderate difficulty. After filming it was decided that there should be a style guide set to do the "zip zip" as behind the back and then in front.

contact poi

talivan

pass poi in chest roll ???? without grasping the rope as it passes through the chest ???. Resistance to balance two poi contact at the same time ???. when you discover what it really is hard to practice every day, you realize that everything is also more logical if you study. for my hard work and the difficulty of the technique says a lot. Shaolin kung fu has given me physical strength and mentally, also taught me a lot, so you end up never learn and that's the part that I like more because when you go harder everything becomes.

MinuEd (with notation)

Ed_Clark

MinuEd is a pass-pass-self base pattern, with some one beat manipulations, which makes it more difficult than standard notation patterns where every manipulation is given two beats. It is juggled in the Rhonda manipulation style http://juggling.tv/15646. First round of the pattern ever recorded (http://juggling.tv/15002) was in the iconic Rhonda styling, so it has set the default style for MinuEd Notation is in the video!

Tricks With Hats: Full arm roll (backhand release)

TricksWithHats

Full arm roll (backhand release) - Roll the hat from hand to hand along outstretched arms Hold the hat with the crown back in an inside grip in your outstretched right hand. Flick the hat so that it spins up out of the back of your hand onto the arm and rolls across the back of the neck (make sure the head is ducked forward out of the way) and down the other arm. As the hat reaches the other wrist bend the hand up and catch it in a inside grip. Make sure the arms are sloped so that the hat is always rolling "downhill", and practice, practice, practice - this is a difficult trick. From the TricksWithHats archive

Tricks With Hats: Back Rolls

TricksWithHats

Back Rolls - Bend forward and roll the hat across the back. Hold the hat with the crown facing backwards in an inside grip. Bend the body forward from the waist and swing the hat across the body tucking the hand into the arm pit.Let the hat roll across the back, aiming for the opposite shoulder. Turn the head to the right and watch the hat as it drops off the shoulder. Catch it in an inside grip with the left hand. If the hat is difficult to catch then you are probably throwing it too hard. Learn this trick with both hands, as it looks nice if you roll the hat back and forth across the back. From the TricksWithHats archive

Tricks With Hats: Back tumble

TricksWithHats

Back tumble - Tumble the hat down your back and then up again. Put the hat towards the back of your head. If you throw the head back you should be able to hit the brim with the back of the neck and have it roll down the back. As the hat rolls bend forwards from the waist to slow it down. Catch it in a inside grip with both hands. Hold the hat still but move your hands so that they are at the front of the brim. Flick the hat so it rolls up the back. As you feel it on the shoulders put the head back to catch it. Getting the timing right takes a lot of practice...be warned, this trick is difficult. From the TricksWithHats archive

Tricks With Hats: Twiddled Big Circles

TricksWithHats

Twiddled Big Circles - A trickier but nicer version of Big Circles Big Circles is a big, visual trick, but the grip change can be slightly ungainly. The twiddle that this trick adds gives a similar effect but has a smoother, if slightly more difficult, change. Mike and LP disagree on the best way to do this - LP's way, shown in the video clip above, is to do a finger twiddle, as described in the Forward Twiddle when the hat is at the top of the circle. Mike uses a Thumb Spin to adjust the grip. Try both and decide which feels more comfortable to you, there's little point getting both smooth as they look identical to anyone except a hat manipulation geek, and there aren't many of them in the world! Grad School 1

ultimatewannabe

I've been in grad school for 18 months now and it's been a difficult trip. Certainly more time consuming than undergrad but after the first semester I managed to find time to balance life out a bit more, resume volunteer work and circus training. The tricks in this video were mostly filmed over Thanksgiving and Christmas break and almost entirely involve backcrosses with clubs mainly because that's what I'm most excited about sharing at the moment. My knees gave me some problems several years ago and it's made me too paranoid about re-injuring them to do 360 tricks on an un-waxed floor. It's not any loss to the viewer as I haven't learned any new spin tricks in a long time. This is not to say I don't give them the effort, just that I haven't improved on them for a while. There are 360 tricks I could do in high school that I can't do much better these days despite the 6 years of practice that have passed. There are no balls in the video because I couldn't find a way to film them clearly and there is not

How to juggle 3 clubs

NielsDuinker

Learn to juggle with 3 clubs with Niels Duinker. Juggling with clubs is a lot of fun. It is a bit more difficult than juggling with balls due to the spin, but it's great fun once you have mastered it. In this video Niels Duinker explains the basics of club juggling.

Dual Balance

peterbone

Two poles of different lengths balanced simultaneously on the head, as well as some other balancing tricks. This is know as a dual or twin inverted pendulum in control systems engineering. In the first 2 clips I use a long pole that is 4 times the length of the short pole. In the 3rd clip the long pole is only 3 times as long and is more difficult. The poles fit together in sections so that I can pack them in my bag. They're made from a cheap Argos wardrobe. The ball on the end of the long pole is mainly there to make the end more visible. I'm using rubber chair leg feet at the bottom end of the poles. Music is 'Heartbeats' by The Knife.

Mystery Wrist Mount Trick - N12 MagicYoYo Shark Tutorial

stringslingernm

Mystery Wrist Mount Trick - N12 MagicYoYo Shark Tutorial. About the trick... It came out in the late 90's early 2000. Alex Berenguel may be the creator of the trick. This trick has been a difficult one to have a 100% identification on the name. Thanks to Shannon Jackson and the Yossarian for their help in trying to identify the originator and name (about 95% sure on the answer). Special thanks to MagicYoYo in Shenzhen! Music courtesy Stuart and The Juice Tigers. Filmed in Northwest New Mexico in November and December 2012. Cinematography by Izzi.
