The tricklist for the 2008 British Kendama Championships, which was held at the BJC in March 2008. (#8 should be called "Maeuchi", not "Kajiya". "Kajiya" means to tap to the base cup. Thanks to asidematoi for the correction.)

(4x,2)*er features 65 patterns based on the siteswap (4x,2)* performed by 22 jugglers. It's filmed in four countries and features lots of juggling celebrities - it's also pretty funny (that's my opinion of course and I made the video so, whatever).

I strayed away from my faster, electronica-based, style of editing to pursue something more relaxed in my last few videos. For my first personal video of the year (and my first ever solo video as director and not cameraman), I wanted to revisit this style with my recent progress in videography. La compagnie Tilos vous propose son spectacle "Une paire pour deux", un duo dédié au passing avec seulement une paire de baguettes et un diabolo. Le choix d'un matériel minimal est une contrainte particulière qui mène vers des ressorts techniques originaux, et pousse le passing dans une voie encore peu explorée. The Tilos Company presents the show "A pair for two", a duet based on diabolo passing with only one pair of sticks and one diabolo. The choice to make a whole act with such a few number of juggling props is a really intersting constraint that leads to an original technical research and brings the diabolo passing in a way no mutch developped.

The machine learning shows a genetic algorithm evolving a multi-layer perceptron neural network controller to perform the balance in 2 dimensions. A 2D rigid-body physics engine was used for the simulation. Filmed at a bouldering spot just east of Perth innovatively called "Boulder Rock". The music is Illusion by VNV Nation. The five main sequences show different families of siteswaps involving 1 or 2 high throws and juggling 4 or 3 balls underneath. The final 3 sequences involve different tricks with the lower balls, and the 4th sequence uses 75814 as the base pattern rather than 5. Here's something I discovered while composing my thoughts for an upcoming siteswap-based tutorial for numbers juggling (still in progress) I call them "siteswap pinch-ups." I don't think they have been described before.

Here's the way computers use the state-space to generate transition sequences ... and why that way doesn't work for people! Plus, there's a human-based way if you know of or can come up with a trick that has states in common with the two tricks you wish to transition between. /nPlease note that even if tricks have different levels of excitation, but nevertheless share states with one another, you can just go from the middle of one trick to the middle of the other (or wherever the tricks share the common state), without any "extra" throws.

2Travel:/nA lonely traveller: Where is he coming from? Where is he going? What is he waiting for?/n2Travel is based on the lonelyness of a traveller and how he deals with this. To make the waiting more comfortable a juggler picks up his clubs. But isn’t it nice to have someone there to watch you? The juggler uses everything he is carrying to create a fellow traveler, a friend. The quest has started and leeds to a poetic play with clubs, suitcase and pieces of clothes.
