Sitting Down is Hard Work

wpenman

I said a while ago that it's much easier to juggle with all throws and catches under the legs when you're sitting down. Well, I got my video camera out and taped myself doing some sweet moves. It's easy to do the simple patterns, but integrating cool 3 ball tricks makes it look really good--and makes it really difficult.

Something new and contact juggling after 11 months

markconigliaro

Well this is a long video, mostly because of the intro though. i don't want to spoil anything in the description...but I have to in the tricks list, so get to at least like a minute in before reading this. Like I said, I'm 2 days late, but that's because I was hanging out with the .org people on the 10th, and didn't get home until 4:00 on the 11th, and I had work at 5. Then the next day I wasn't home at all. So yea, I'm late, but I didn't use those late days to get more practice in. When i get into the ball juggling, I've only been doing that for a little less then a week, so hopefully by next month I can make it consistent. Now for the spoilers: 3 Clubs: Invincible by Adelita's Way 3:15 - First double throw 4:18 - Constant under arm throws with the same club 4:23 - Chops 4:36 - Multiplex start 4:41 - Reverse chops 4:50 - Reverse cascade 4:56 - Double starting throw 5:06 - Double cascade 5:26 - Mill's mess 5:33 - Flat spin start 5:37 - Green club thrown with an opposite spin .....Right after typing this

Switching between scrambled 3V and 3B long run

brook_roberts

Starting off with the base pattern of rotating 2 count 4 count feed, we then add the maniuplators to do 3B (Brook in blue t-shirt the B maniuplator, Steve in black t-shirt the 3 manipulator). Every 30 beats you get back to the start, and so every 30 beats the B/V manipulator (Brook at this point) switches to the other pattern and the 5 people do around of 3B/3V. We do 3B/3V/3B/3V and then try to exit the pattern. Patterned invented by Aidan - see 'How to Steal From Your Friends' at http://www.juggle.me.uk/passing/ where 3,V,B and transitions between them are described. In Aidan Notation (X, Y, Z are the jugglers): X: Ps | Ps | Ps Y: Ps | ss | Ps Z: ss | Ps | ss 3: cZZ | sZX | iXY V: cXY | sYY | iXZ B: iXY | cYY | sYX I switch by doing the second column of the pattern I've arrived in (as manipulator) and then switching to the third column of the new pattern (and everyone responds accordingly).

Ed_Clark

__1__2__3 A: ps ps ps ->B B: ps ss ps ->C C: ss ps ss -> A M: sB iC cC -> M The feeder is "A", the juggler to the feeder's left is "B" and the juggler to the feeder's right is "C". The feeder counts "1 2 3" to make it easier to keep track of where we are in the pattern. On beats 1 and 3, A (the feeder) and B exchange a pass. On beat 2, A and C exchange a pass. On 3, juggler B catches the pass and walks on four count (rotating the positions anti-clockwise). 1. "sB": The manipulator substitutes a pass from A to B. 2. "iC": The manipulator (M) intercepts a the pass from A to C. The juggler who was C is the new manipulator, and reads from the manipulator line. The old manipulator reads C's line. 3. TOM OF CIRCUS

Samuli

'Is it some sort of gay leather circus from Finland' -A. Berry/nTOM OF CIRCUS ‘refuge and liberation in art!’ In our work we have no statements to make as we already know how the world lies. Tricks With Hats: Steve Rawlings Twisty Hat Catch

TricksWithHats

Steve Rawlings showed me this trick in Birmingham and said that he used to do it in every show, but now that he's older (and a little rounder :-) he can't get it every time any more. Steve uses a china plate for this trick, but it works with hats too which is why it's here! :-) Take the hat in your right hand, using an inside grip and hold it so that the crown of the hat is facing to the left. Throw the hat virtically with some spin, and then do the following while the hat is in the air... Put your right hand between your legs Take the hand around the back of the right leg Stand on your left leg and move the right hand & foot behind the left leg Then, catch the descending hat in your right hand, from that position. Without falling over. Top Tips: Practice the "tangle yourself up" bit first without the catch. Keep your eye on the hat as it decends, practice loads... Luke Burrage managed to get this on video within 30 minutes. I've been trying for weeks and can't do it. It's pretty hard.

Tricks With Hats: Sweavo's Hatstand

TricksWithHats

The hatstand made its debut at chocfest 7, where I was compering. After a period of prototyping and refining, I built the version that worked. I demoed this a couple of times then it broke. I replaced the elastic and set it up for the big day, used it on stage and it worked, then broke next time I used it. Be prepared to spend significant tinkering time in between uses, and for frequent breakdowns. That said, it's never let me down when I've needed it. All in all I've found it a great way to get chicks[1], if you don't count the long evenings spent honing the design and strewing the house with geeky construction equipment, and the fact you'll be laughed out of most nightclubs if you go in wearing a topper. But on stage it works, and it has drawn admiring glances from fellow jugglers and even won us a bag full of croissants on one occasion. Unscrambled B 'round tree

westwolf

Aidan Burns' Scrambled V Variation (iB cB sA) General information: The feeder is "A", the juggler to the feeder's left is "B" and the juggler to the feeder's right is "C". The feeder counts "1 2 3" to make it easier to keep track of where we are in the pattern. On beats 1 and 3, A (the feeder) and B exchange a pass. On beat 2, A and C exchange a pass. Walking: After pass three, B walks on a 4-count to the left side of A. All the jugglers are relabeled (A -> B', B -> C', C -> A') and the new feeder A' starts counting the 3 passes, starting with B'. The manipulation: 1. "iB": The manipulator (M) intercepts a pass from A to B. The juggler who was B is new M, and reads from the manipulator line. The juggler who was M now is B. 2. "cB": M carries a club to B. 3. "sA": M substitutes a the pass from B to A. How to do this pattern: We start manipulating the pattern by substituting the pass from B to A on beat three. You can skip the tree bit if you like.

Unscrambled LB: Aidan Burns' Scrambled V Variation (iA cC sB)

wmurray

Unscrambled LB, by Aidee Castro, Steve Healy, Rhonda and Will Murray (Long Beach, 2014). Part of the Aidan Burns Project to juggle all 27 of his Scrambled V variations. Special thanks to Steve Gerdes. Notation: __1__2__3 A: ps ps ps ->B B: ps ss ps ->C C: ss ps ss -> A M: iA cC sB -> M The feeder is A and the feedees are B (on A's left) and C. The feeder counts 1 2 3. On 1 and 3, A and B exchange a pass. On 2, A and C exchange a pass. On 3, B catches the pass and walks over by A, rotating the positions. 1. "iA": The manipulator M intercepts a pass from B to A. The juggler who was A becomes the manipulator, and reads from the manipulator line. The old manipulator reads A's line. 2. "cC": The manipulator carries a club to C. 3. "sB": The manipulator substitutes a pass from A to B (catches the pass and hands in a different club). Then all the jugglers are re-labeled (but not the manipulator) and the new feeder starts counting the 3 passes. Here, Rhonda starts manipulating at beat 3 above.

Valentin Dikul

Archive

A circus acrobat, Valentin took a bad fall and broke his back when he was seventeen. Dikul said no to the wheel-chair and painstakingly rehabilitated himself, largely with the help of his trusted kettlebells. But he did not stop there. He proceeded to become a great circus strongman juggling 80kg kettlebells and a powerlifter with mind-boggling lifts at sixty-something years of age!

Y you follow me

Ed_Clark

A new pattern created using Aidan notation. The manipulators in this pattern are dependent, as clubs are taken by one manipulator and replaced by the other. 4 count static Y base, with B at the back of the Y, D in the middle of the Y, A on the left of the Y (from the point of view of D and B) and C on the right. Aiden notation for the pattern: A ps|ss|ps|ss|ps|ss B ps|ss|ps|ss|ps|ss C ps|ss|ps|ss|ps|ss D ps|ss|ps|ss|ps|ss M1 cD|--|sA|iA|cA|-- M2 sC|iC|cD|iD|cB|iB Starting: M1 starts back to back with D facing B M2 stands in front of C facing C We start with a ps and then the manipulators begin on ss. The manipulators start on the last instruction at ss as it is written above (M1 --, M2 iB) When M1 reaches the end of the instructions, M1 becomes M2 (having reached the physical location of M2 at the start of the M2 instructions). Similarly M2 becomes M1

It´s easier for the manipulator tells AND 1 2 3 as the cC actually happens before count 1. We find it much easier to start the pattern on count 2 and miss the cC in the first round. Wolfgang (blue t-shirts) moves different on iB. Just choose your favorite style.
